China-U.S. rivalry will surpass Russia-U.S. competition, Former Turkish FM says

"US is creating new rules and imposing them. Russia's activities within its own region affect the security of the EU," said  Türkiye's former foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, during the panel themed Geopolitical Shifts: Responsible Partnerships versus Rivalry at the XII Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

He noted that the international system has not been completely broken: "The post-World War II order has not yet fully ended. We must admit that the era we are living in is already changing. As Türkiye, we believe that we will see more competition between China and the US rather than Russia and the US. New powers have emerged in a fragmented world. These new powers are trying to change the new global order. These issues must be understood by the West. The Global South has emerged, but they cannot threaten the Global West."

Çavuşoğlu pointed out that the West has not been able to prevent any war or conflict: "The system before us has not yet completely collapsed. But we must create a new system that includes everyone. We need to change relationships in the new world. Relations should not be based on competition."

Çavuşoğlu also mentioned that all crises affect Türkiye's political stability and economy: "That is why Türkiye's activity in the global system is understandable."
