Pilot killed as Bangladesh training aircraft nosedives, crashes into river

A training aircraft crashed into a river in Bangladesh's Chattogram on Thursday. One of the two pilots who were aboard the aircraft died in the accident, APA reports citing Daily Star.

A video of the incident shows fire engulfing the rear of the aircraft as it nosedived. The aircraft is seen making almost a circle before it crashed into the river.

The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said squadron leader Asim Jawad, 32, died while undergoing treatment at a Navy hospital.

The YAK130 trainer fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) was returning to the base after training around 10:25 am when it crashed.

Wing Commander Sohan Hasan Khan and squadron leader Asim Jawad were onboard the flight and managed to eject from the jet. The video shows the pilots parachute-landing.

The Daily Star reported that the two pilots, who had landed in the river, were rescued by members of the air force, navy and local fishermen.

Asim Jawad was rushed to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.
