Astana, Baku and Tashkent start preparations works for integration of energy system

Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have started preparing the technical and economic feasibility studies (TES) of the project to integrate energy systems and lay a high-voltage cable through the bottom of the Caspian Sea to sell green energy to the European Union, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev said at a briefing, APA-Economics reports citing TASS.

"Initial works have been conducted with the EU states interested in buying clean electricity. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have signed an agreement on laying a high-voltage cable through the bottom of the Caspian Sea, which will enable us to provide the premium markets with clean, renewable energy. We are talking about quite large volume of investments," the Minister noted.

According to him, it is planned to use the wind potential of the Caspian coastal and Aral zones for the export of electricity.

"We have now started preparing the technical and economic feasibility studies of the project, a construction period will be determined according to that. We plan to obtain the preliminary results of the technical and economic feasibility studies by the end of the year," the Minister of Energy emphasized.

Recall that on May 1 of 2024, the "Memorandum of Understanding on Merging the Energy Systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan" was signed.
